The recognition was conferred during the 59th Araw ng Davao Oriental celebration, honoring his dedication to research, teaching, and legal scholarship, work that also shaped his 2023 study on school violence and safety in Philippine schools.

About the Gawad Oriental Davaoeño
The Gawad Oriental Davaoeño is a newly launched recognition program of the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, held for the first time this year as one of the highlights of the 59th Araw ng Davao Oriental. The inaugural awarding recognized 119 outstanding individuals and organizations across categories including Academic Excellence, Professional and Non-Professional Achievement, Uniformed Service Excellence, Youth Leadership and Development, Sports Excellence, Arts, Culture and Tourism Excellence, Community Service, Agriculture, Fisheries, Entrepreneurship and Leadership, Innovation and Research, Environmental Stewardship, Special Provincial Recognition, and Lifetime Achievement Recognition.
Each awardee received a commemorative plaque, a copy of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution recognizing their achievement, and a cash incentive from the Provincial Government. The province has described the program as the start of a lasting annual tradition honoring the people it considers its greatest asset.
